The A-State Lecture-Concert Series presents Frisson Winds in concert. Frisson Winds features the brilliant wind musicians of the explosive group Frisson. These virtuoso wind players perform a wide variety of music for winds of various combinations as well as wonderful programs of music for piano and winds.Group members are Anna Urrey, flute; Tom Gallant, oboe; Bixby Kennedy, clarinet; and Rémy Taghavi, bassoon.
Rising tenor Limmie Pulliam continues to thrill audiences with his captivating stage presence and his “stentorian, yet beautiful,” sound. Pulliam was recently praised by the San Francisco Chronicle for his “full-throated vocal power, and intimate lyricism,,’ with his recent debut at Livermore Valley Opera in Verdi’s Otello.

A new performance series will be presented by the Historic Dyess Colony: Johnny Cash Boyhood Home. The Sunken Lands Songwriting Circle will be held in Riceland Hall at Fowler Center, located at 201 Olympic Dr., Saturday, Aug. 12. This event will be hosted by Rosanne Cash along with performers Rodney Crowell and Sarah Jarosz, with accompaniment by the acclaimed guitarist and songwriter John Leventhal. Proceeds will benefit the ongoing preservation and operation of the boyhood home.The evening reception will begin at 5 PM in the Grand Hall with Cash-themed drinks, hors doeuvres, and a silent auction. The concert will begin at 7:00. Ticket prices begin at just $43 plus fees. Following the concert, there will be a meet-and-greet with the artists for VIP ticket holders ($98 plus fees).

The Plastics will take the Forum Theater stage for Mean Girls JR! This “fetch” musical is packed with keen wit, an undeniably catchy score, and a sincere message for everyone. Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. Cady and her friends devise a “Revenge Party” to end Regina’s reign with Cady going undercover as an aspiring Plastic. When the lines between the real Cady and her Plastic self get blurred, she must find her way back to herself and her true friends. From writer Tina Fey (30 Rock), lyricist Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde) and composer Jeff Richmond (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
