Community Scholars Training, A-State Heritage Sites

The next installment of the Arkansas Folk and Traditional Arts Community Scholars Training Program – a free training opportunity for Arkansans interested in finding, documenting and presenting community culture, folklife and traditional arts – will be held in collaboration with the Southern Tenant Farmers Museum and the Historic Dyess Colony: Johnny Cash Boyhood Home (museums of the Arkansas State University Heritage Sites).
This iteration of the program will follow a new model consisting of two intensive weekends spread out in the summer. The first intensive will be held June 7th-8th at the Historic Dyess Colony heritage site (in Dyess, Arkansas). The second intensive will be held July 26-27th at the Southern Tenant Farmers Museum (in Tyronza, Arkansas). Participants must commit to attending both weekend intensives, and registration is required.

Please note: Saturday sessions will last all day, while Sunday sessions will be held in the afternoon only.
Session 1: Saturday, June 7: 9:30am-4:30pm in Dyess
Session 2: Sunday, June 8: 1:00pm-3:00pm in Dyess
Session 3: Saturday, July 26: 9:30am-4:30pm in Tyronza
Session 4: Sunday, July 27: 1:00pm-3:00pm in Tyronza
Participants will gain skills in documenting and researching culture, archiving and presenting research and developing projects in collaboration with community stakeholders and organizations. During the program, participants will develop ideas for a project and be encouraged to gather an oral history interview to practice the skills learned.
